More Birds Missed – 30/xi/13

I hoped that on a visit to the Crabtree Hill area of the Forest of Dean I would take in a few good species that had been in the area. However, in a 3 hour visit, I failed to see any of the flock of Two-Barred Crossbill which had been present for a couple of weeks. Also, there was no sign of the Great-Grey Shrike that had been on the clearfell area and no Hawfinches were present. The only birds of any note that were seen were a pair of Goosander on Woorgreens Lake, a few Ravens some mixed groups of Siskin and Redpoll and a possible Brambling. Also a group of eight Crossbill sp. flew over in the area where the Two-Barred Crossbills had been reported, but were not identified to species level due to the briefness of the views.
