The year had a dream start for me when I saw a Red-Breasted Goose at Poole Harbour, not the rarest of species, but one I had wanted to see for quite a while. A February holiday to Scotland produced my first Lesser Scaup, a female at Caerlaverock WWT. The journey home was also productive on the rarity front, this time it was a stunning adult male Barrow’s Goldeneye at a Loch near Stirling, only my second ever mega rarity! A quiet summer followed, but it was made up for by a Spotted Sandpiper at Lisvane Reservoir in Cardiff in October and a White-Rumped Sandpiper at Kenfig Pool in November, which gave ridiculously good views. Other decent birds noted in 2007 included; ScaupPtarmigan, Slavonian Grebe, and Bearded Tit.
