Dowitcher Twitch – 9/x/13

As most of my day was lecture free, I decided that I would twitch the LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER at Rhaslas Pond, Rhymney. After a tedious train journey and tough cycle up the hill, I reached the pond and quickly reached the area where the bird had previously been seen. Only two other birders were present, and I was quickly put onto the bird – a juvenile – feeding along the near shoreline, no more than twenty feet away! Excellent scope views were had – particularly when the sun came out (briefly). The bird spent most of the time feeding, but was also seen preening for a short while and at one point crouched down low in the shallow water as all of the Gulls took off. Below are a couple of shots that I managed:Long-Billed Dowitcher 0017 Ced Ced
