Wheatear Twitch – 14/xii/13

A satisfying twitch to Severn Beach in Gloucestershire today produced cracking views of a 1st-winter male DESERT WHEATEAR. After a tough journey (public transport), the bird was located on an area of long grass below the sea wall, where a small crowd had gathered. Immediately it came closer, and after a short while it was feeding at point blank range, showing its delightful plumage very well. The bird had apparently appeared unwell when it was first discovered, but it seemed to be feeding well whilst I was there, so hopefully it will make a full recovery.
