Revisiting the Old Patch – 28/xii/13

My last bit of birding for the year was a quiet walk to the top fields of my old patch, near Llanfach. The weather was rainy at first, but cleared up a bit, to reveal the usual common species including Bullfinch, Greenfinch and Great-Spotted Woodpecker.

The winter flock of approximately 300 Chaffinches were in the usual area and some thorough scanning eventually revealed the Brambling I had hoped to see. First a winter male was picked up through the scope, and then a female also came into view. A tidy end to my birding year.
