I haven’t been up to a lot lately on the birding seen. I dipped the Night Heron at Cosmeston Lakes on Friday, and spent a few quiet hours at the Newport Wetlands on Saturday with my Dad and a friend of his.
At Cosmeston there were a few Reed Buntings, Swifts, Grey Herons and Great-Crested Grebes around with the usual Hirundines and Ducks.
At Newport Wetlands, the usual species were seen at both Goldcliff and Uskmouth. Notable sightings included Little-Ringed Plovers with chicks and encouraging numbers of Avocet juveniles. Cetti’s Warbler, Whitethroat, Reed Warbler and Sedge Warbler were seen at Uskmouth and Lesser Whitethroat was heard.
