Catch-Up – 17/vi/14

I haven’t been up to a lot lately on the birding seen. I dipped the Night Heron at Cosmeston Lakes on Friday, and spent a few quiet hours at the Newport Wetlands on Saturday with my Dad and a friend of his.

At Cosmeston there were a few Reed Buntings, Swifts, Grey Herons and Great-Crested Grebes around with the usual Hirundines and Ducks.

At Newport Wetlands, the usual species were seen at both Goldcliff and Uskmouth. Notable sightings included Little-Ringed Plovers with chicks and encouraging numbers of Avocet juveniles. Cetti’s Warbler, Whitethroat, Reed Warbler and Sedge Warbler were seen at Uskmouth and Lesser Whitethroat was heard.

In the last few weeks, I have used my camera a fair amount and here are some of the results:

Before leaving University for the summer I finally managed to get some good views of the Ring-Necked Parakeet:
