I haven’t been out birding much recently, so myself and my two brothers left home at about 21:10 last night and cycled for 40 minutes or so to a nearby Nightjar site. We sat quietly by the path as the light faded, and heard several birds begin to sing amongst the pines. After a short wait, a male bird flew fairly low over our heads and caught a moth right in front of us. A bit later on, two birds were seen together in flight over our heads and heard ‘wing-clapping’. We left the site at about 23:00, pleased with the views we had had of these charismatic birds.
