Weekend in the West – 27-29/vi/14

An enjoyable weekend in Barmouth took in quite a few interesting species. On the bird front, notable sightings included approximately 300 Manx Shearwater, double figures of Gannets, four Common Terns, fledgling Reed Bunting and Willow Warbler (plus parents). Also, very good views of good numbers of Red Kite (60-70) at Rhyadar on the way home.

On the insect front, Ringlet and Large Skipper butterflies were noted, but the highlight was a fresh male Purple Hairstreak. A new species in Britain for me.
